Shaping the future of healthcare: making highly complex medical products come alive

Siemens Healthineers USA wants to facilitate a value increase for healthcare service providers. The fundamental strategy is the digitization of healthcare provision. The specialist for highly technical medical products supports such companies in expanding precision medicine, redesigning how they provide their services and improving the patient experience.

Around five million patients benefit from their innovative technologies and services across diagnostic and therapeutic imaging, lab diagnostics and molecular medicine as well as digital health and enterprise services each day. The company has been going for over 120 years, currently boasting 18,500 patents worldwide and relying on around 50,000 employees in more than 70 countries.

The challenge

Radiology covers a wide range of products. All solutions consist of various pieces of equipment, whereby the focus is on smooth interaction between all parts as well as intuitive, digital, pioneering operation. The equipment is highly innovative: digital, analog and portable X-ray machines by Siemens contribute to improving clinical results, patient satisfaction and the efficiency of work processes in all areas of healthcare.

The products are very complex, comprehensive and multifunctional, so it makes sense to see them “in action”, which has primarily been achieved up to now using videos. To deepen this experience for the user, a selection of the most progressive products were to be brought alive in a 3D hospital environment.

The solution

To this end, we at mld digits conceptualized and virtually modelled part of a hospital specializing in radiology. In principle, the function is similar to that of a virtual trade fair stand: various rooms are used to make the products and supplementary information come alive. Positioning within the hospital rooms makes their functions and proportions palpable. Each object is presented in its very own scene. On one hand, this helps the visitor focus on one product at a time. On the other, data can be reloaded for each scene. This increases web performance, reducing the strain on the website and ensuring the best possible quality for the product presentation.

What’s so special about it?

The Siemens Healthineers virtual hospital is a real world of experiences that can be constantly expanded and flexibly adjusted to suit the product range. The existing system can be used to present new equipment in a new room without considerable effort. The platform is excellently suited for sales consultations, but prospective customers can also navigate the self-explanatory content alone as they explore the portfolio. For this reason, the virtual hospital can also be used for trade fair purposes as well.
