Thales 3D Scanner

Presenting complex workflows in an understandable way

LAP is one of the world’s leading suppliers of systems that increase quality and efficiency through laser projection, laser measurement, and other processes. Every year, LAP supplies 15,000 units to customers in industries as diverse as radiation therapy, steel production, and composite processing. 300 employees are working at 8 locations in Europe, America, and Asia.

The Challenge

Modern medical technology is characterized by highly engineered and complex products, such as linear accelerators (LINAC) in cancer therapy. To ensure the correct functioning and quality assurance of these LINAC devices, they must be precisely adjusted. Measuring instruments such as LAP’s THALES 3D SCANNER help with this. In order to present the Unique Selling Points and the functionality of this device and the associated software in a comprehensible way, it makes sense to show the device in use.

However, since it is not possible to transport the scanner to potential customers and trade shows without considerable cost and additional effort, an alternative solution is needed.

The challenge was to present the workflows and the structure of the device in an understandable way in a holistic product presentation on the web, while also highlighting its special features.

The Solution

To achieve this goal, mld digits developed a web experience with various hotspots for LAP. This was then integrated into LAP’s product website. For the application, a therapy room was equipped with a LINAC device and the THALES 3D SCANNER. Here, interested parties are guided step by step through the set-up of the scanner on the linear accelerator using animated workflows and information and can experience the application interactively on their own. The handling of the measuring device as well as the mode of operation are thus presented in a comprehensible way.

In the control room, visitors are guided through the software and thus learn how to use it in practice. Furthermore, the whiteboard provides additional information on the THALES 3D SCANNER in the form of videos, brochures, and links to related websites.

What’s so special about it?

The interactive web experience offers LAP several possible uses: On the one hand, it serves as a source of information about the product for interested customers on the website. The detailed and visual representation of the work processes, the software and the installation of the device facilitates familiarization with the system. The application can also be used for training purposes, both internally at LAP and externally with customers. The application is also available to sales personnel for customer presentations and at trade fairs.
